Exter combines a compact SUV body with a four-cylinder 1.2-litre engine and a factory CNG alternative. The current listing uses HX grade names and a dual-cylinder CNG layout, making it important to distinguish today’s equipment from earlier examples.

Engine and fuel choices

Both Exter fuel routes use a four-cylinder 1.2-litre engine family. The petrol route offers a five-speed manual or AMT, whereas the CNG version is manual. This makes fuel and transmission a combined decision: a buyer wanting clutch-free driving should not assume that every CNG trim provides it. Test the exact fuel version with the normal passenger load and compare the driving response on your own commuting route.

What dual-cylinder packaging changes

Hy-CNG Duo places two factory-installed cylinders in the vehicle, with an underbody spare-wheel arrangement described on the current page. Look at the remaining luggage floor and try the cases you actually carry. The 60-litre cylinder figure is water-equivalent volume, not the kilograms of CNG delivered at every refill. Local pressure and filling conditions affect the amount dispensed, so calculate fuel costs from actual bills rather than cylinder volume.

Small footprint, individual fit

At 3,830 mm long, Exter is a shorter vehicle than a typical midsize SUV, but its 1,723 mm body width still needs a real garage measurement. Allow extra room for mirrors and open doors. A raised SUV appearance does not establish four-wheel drive: the manufacturer specifies front-wheel drive. For village roads, inspect clearance with the intended load and avoid drawing off-road conclusions from exterior cladding alone.

HX equipment and smartphone connection

The current highlights include a dashcam, alloy wheels and smartphone projection, but feature availability changes by HX grade. Hyundai specifically notes a wired-to-wireless adapter for the HX 10 implementation. Try connecting your own phone during the demonstration and check whether that adapter is included in the written quotation. A wireless claim is less useful when the required accessory or compatibility condition has been omitted.

AMT and paddle operation

Paddle shifters let the driver request gear changes on applicable versions; they do not turn the AMT into a different transmission design. During a test drive, compare ordinary automatic operation with manual requests at safe speeds. Check how easily the vehicle moves at parking pace and whether the controls feel comfortable. A buyer who mostly drives in congestion should prioritise that experience over the sporting appearance of the paddles.

Fuel economics and a final quote

Compare petrol and CNG using your annual kilometres, actual nearby fuel prices and the purchase-price difference for matching equipment. Include the time spent reaching a filling station. Obtain a dated on-road breakdown for the chosen HX grade and keep registration, insurance and accessories separate. This article does not manufacture a uniform state tax rate, and the absence of a verified local quote is shown as missing price information.
