Hyundai’s current India product pages describe an84 kWh IONIQ5 with rear-wheel drive, a3,000 mm wheelbase and a690 km advertised range. The battery and charging figures should be read as one current configuration, rather than mixed with the older72.6 kWh model still found in historical listings.

The84 kWh configuration and the range claim
The important starting point for this IONIQ5 is its84 kWh battery. Hyundai’s product overview advertises690 km, while the technical page identifies the motor and charging arrangement. That range is a manufacturer claim, not a promise for a highway journey with air conditioning and a full cabin. Plan charging stops with a reserve and compare energy use over your regular route. A used-car advertisement quoting72.6 kWh refers to a different specification and should not inherit the newer range figure.
Fast charging needs the right charger
The headline18-minute time covers10 to80 percent using a350 kW DC charger under suitable conditions. It does not describe an empty-to-full session, and the charger’s label is not the same as a constant battery intake throughout charging. For home use, the specification gives7 hours35 minutes from10 to100 percent on11 kW AC. Check the electrical supply, installation quotation and usual overnight parking arrangement before treating public ultra-fast charging as the entire ownership plan.
Long wheelbase, substantial road footprint
A3,000 mm wheelbase helps explain why the IONIQ5 can feel different inside from an ordinary petrol SUV of similar overall length. The electric platform places the battery under the floor and avoids a conventional central transmission tunnel. However, its1,890 mm width remains important in a narrow apartment bay or village lane. Measure the parking opening and allow space for people to enter beside another vehicle. Cabin flexibility does not cancel the physical size of the car outside.
Rear-wheel drive and chassis equipment
The specified168 kW motor drives the rear wheels through a single-speed reduction gear. This is not an all-wheel-drive configuration merely because the body is marketed as an SUV. Hyundai lists front struts, a multi-link rear layout and disc brakes at both ends. Its255/45 R20 tyres are another ownership detail worth pricing before purchase: replacement cost, local availability and the correct load specification matter. The listed tyre mobility kit also deserves a demonstration because it is not a full-size spare wheel.
V2L and driver assistance need understanding
The overview advertises vehicle-to-load capability and Level2 Hyundai SmartSense with22 assistance features. V2L is useful only within the rated output, connector requirements and instructions for the supplied equipment; it is not permission to improvise household wiring. Likewise, driver assistance does not transfer responsibility away from the person driving. During handover, ask for the exact feature list, operating conditions and warning meanings. Features shown on an international video may not match the Indian car being delivered.
How to compare an IONIQ5 quotation
An IONIQ5 quotation should identify the battery version, charging equipment included, installation scope, insurance and registration amounts separately. This article does not have a verified city price, so no invented all-state total is shown. If a dealer offers older stock, compare its actual specification and warranty commencement rather than judging the discount alone. Finally, test the seating position and visibility with the people who will regularly travel in the car; a spacious platform is useful only when its ergonomics suit them.
