Hero HF 100 is a straightforward 97.2 cc commuter motorcycle whose published configuration uses a kick starter, four-speed gearbox and drum brakes. Its purpose is best understood through those simple choices, rather than by confusing it with higher-equipped HF Deluxe or Splendor versions. The current official table also gives a 110 kg kerb weight and 9.1-litre tank.

A small engine for commuting
The HF 100 uses a 97.2 cc air-cooled engine with fuel injection. Hero quotes 5.9 kW at 8,000 rpm and 8.05 Nm at 6,000 rpm. These figures describe its modest mechanical specification without claiming that it is suitable for every load or route. Riders regularly carrying a pillion should test acceleration on their local gradients before selecting this model.
Kick start is a real specification difference
The official specification lists kick starting. Do not assume an electric starter because another Hero commuter has one. Try the starting procedure while wearing your usual footwear, and consider whether every family member who will use the motorcycle is comfortable with it. A low purchase price can be less useful if the starting method does not suit the intended rider.
Four gears and daily control
A four-speed constant-mesh gearbox and wet multi-plate clutch are listed for this motorcycle. Their operation still requires the rider to coordinate throttle, clutch and gear selection. During a test ride, pay attention to the low-speed gear you need through traffic and the effort at the clutch lever. No unverified top speed or highway cruising recommendation is being inferred from the engine size.
Drum brakes and tyre replacement
Both brakes are 130 mm drums, with an integrated braking system listed at the rear. Integrated braking should not be described as ABS: the systems serve different functions. The published tyre sizes are 2.75 × 18 at both ends, with different front and rear load specifications. Ask the service centre for the exact approved replacement rather than choosing solely by wheel diameter.
Fit, weight and fuel stops
The listed 110 kg kerb weight is useful when comparing parking effort with heavier motorcycles. However, the 805 mm saddle height means a seated test still matters. The 9.1-litre fuel tank does not provide a guaranteed range on its own. Record actual fuel consumption after purchase using consistent fill levels, distance and riding conditions instead of relying on unsourced mileage advertisements.
What to include in the quote
Request a quotation explicitly naming HF 100, not just an entry-level Hero motorcycle. Separate registration and insurance from accessories such as guards or covers, and confirm which items are compulsory and which are optional. Read the current maintenance booklet for service intervals and consumables. We have not verified a city-specific ex-showroom or on-road figure, so no estimated amount is labelled as a dealer quote.
